Minimal labeling system

The Art of Saying Less

In Nordic design, restraint is a virtue. Our minimal labeling philosophy embraces the beauty of simplicity—using only what's necessary to create clarity without visual clutter.

A well-labeled pantry communicates essential information while maintaining the calm, cohesive aesthetic that defines Scandinavian interiors. The goal is enhancement, not decoration.

Our Labeling Principles

Legibility Over Decoration: Choose clean, simple fonts that are easy to read at a glance. Handwritten labels in neutral ink offer warmth and personality.

Consistent Placement: Position all labels in the same location on each container—typically center-front or lower-right corner.

Neutral Color Palette: White, cream, or kraft paper labels blend seamlessly with glass jars and pale oak shelving.

Essential Information Only: Include the ingredient name and, if helpful, purchase or expiration date. Resist the urge to over-label.

Quality Materials: Use waterproof labels or laminated paper to ensure longevity and easy cleaning.

When to Skip Labels Entirely

Sometimes the most beautiful choice is no label at all. If your pantry is highly visible and you use ingredients frequently, your familiarity may make labels unnecessary. Clear glass allows contents to speak for themselves—golden oats, white rice, brown lentils each have distinct visual identities.

Consider label-free storage for items you use daily, reserving labels for specialty ingredients or less frequently accessed containers.
